Multidisciplinary Media Program For At-Risk
Socioeconomically Disadvantaged Youth

We use the media arts to change lives.

Youth InterMedia is a non profit Community Development Corporation that focuses on under served socially disadvantaged youth. Youth InterMedia provides equipment, software, and staffing for audio, video and graphics. We believe music, art and video are vehicles to attract at-risk youth and teens where they have the opportunity to experience personal,
technical, academic and social growth through today’s multimedia world. Those we serve include children and families at risk and special needs groups. Youth InterMedia connects community partners with local artists to create the most positive impact on these vulnerable populations as well as the community at large.

Children & Families At Risk

These media programs are developed for social services and schools to support secondary education through media integration for SRT (Sound and Recording Technology) Programs and job opportunities in media relative fields. Media programs also support adaptive and transitional behavior, or can be used as an avenue that helps participants communicate, cope with depression or survive a crisis. Schools and social service agencies that are seeking programs that will improve self esteem, improve test scores, reduce drop-out rates, teach about healthier lifestyles, and support a better future are invited to contact Youth InterMedia. We are combining mentoring, education and life skills with the arts. These are valuable programs Youth InterMedia delivers to children and families at risk.

Individuals with Special Needs

These media programs promote the creative vocations and training for students with special needs and transitioning from high school into adult living. These programs are customized to meet objectives associated with education, enrichment, life skills and quality of life for a special needs audience.

Community at Large

Youth InterMedia also offers quality media programs and performances designed to engage the general community while spreading awareness of our mission.

Where we Connect

Youth InterMedia mission focuses on the connection and delivery of media programs and we nurture partnerships to help us achieve the highest impact on those we serve. To successfully bring the media arts to under-served counties and communities, Youth InterMedia partners with social service agencies, government entities, school districts, community centers, foster
care, juvenile detention, and treatment centers serving veterans and their families to serve neglected and/or at-risk populations.

Professional Artists and Volunteers

Youth InterMedia partners with professional artists and volunteers who develop and deliver customized programs to children at risk and special needs groups to support our school and community partners. Teaching and performing artists are responsible for planning lessons, teaching, performing and for connecting resources that will support their programs. This includes securing the necessary supplies, costumes, equipment and volunteers necessary to deliver programs to our standards.
These professional artists work to develop a program that will help a social service agency or campus achieve fundamental educational goals, critical needs and objectives. Do you want to
see grade improvements, or truancy reduction? Do you want improved behavior and attitude, and to help a student cope with anger or depression?
Contact Youth InterMedia if you are a professional and/or teaching artist and interested in developing your programs to support Youth InterMedia standards. Our team of professional artists, assistants and volunteers are the heart of our organization and we are thankful to their commitment, integrity and dedication in the impactful programs they develop and deliver every day in our communities!

The Programs

Uniquely, this program of studies is multidisciplinary, giving youth the opportunity to gain experience in audio, video and graphic production and design.
Audio Program
Professional mentors with real-world music production experience teach them how to record, mix, edit and produce digital music. Here they will learn key music production concepts like songwriting and musical arrangement, in addition to learning how to create/modify sounds and even program drum beats and patterns. The entire process of making digital music is explored here. Our youth get to experience what it’s like to be a professional music and audio producer in this exciting simulated studios experience. From recording a live artist to producing sounds and music. Youth in our program will be immersed into the world of music and audio production.
Video Production Program
Lights, camera, action. It is a video world – for music and beyond. We teach these valuable skills at Youth InterMedia, giving youth a chance to shoot, edit, create and produce their own short videos. After completion, we publish the videos on all the streaming sites and share them on YouTube! These skills will serve them well in whatever field they choose for the future.
Music Therapy Program
Music is a universal language… and for young adults living with special needs, it can help increase verbal skills, develop meaningful friendships and build social skills. Our mentors can provide beneficial music classes for young adults with social pragmatic language challenges, including individuals who are on the Autism Spectrum.
Graphics Art Program
“The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance.” – Aristotle (384-322 BC)
Teens will be a part of many activities centered around popular applications like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Corel Draw, that can lead them to understand themselves in new ways. With the help of a warm, professional and supportive environment, these discoveries can be stepping stones.
Youth InterMedia reaches out and redirects at-risk and “written-off” teenagers through the power of music, video and graphic arts. Our project-based approach to learning sparks curiosity, builds confidence, and fosters teamwork.

Youth InterMedia is all about a Media Art & Educational program to reach, support, and improve the lives of others…

These are innovative programs that work to address the educational and social needs represented by students, parents and teachers in our school districts, as well as by clients and case workers in welfare agencies, county courts and social service. Art is used to enhance an educational approach, provide enrichment, or support counseling. Youth InterMedia responds to all needs and requests and will develop and pilot art programs to support specific issues related to education and social skills development.

Youth InterMedia trains and recruits volunteers and contracts professional teaching artists to deliver programs to our highest standards. Our organization works to secure the necessary funding to deliver quality visual and performing art programs to under-served populations and individuals who may not otherwise experience the arts as a part of their
lives.
We are leveraging our core strengths; artists and the creative solutions inspired by the arts, our ability to support programs marketing and arts advocacy, our artists capabilities, and our volunteers willingness and interest in serving others, by establishing strategic partnerships with
social service organizations and schools districts with a mutual interest in providing benefits to their clients and students. We are engaging the community to help. Youth InterMedia collaborates with other fine art, theater and music organizations, plus local businesses, to augment our media art and educational programs. We recruit and train volunteers and
teachers in order to be able to expand our reach.

Geographical Areas Served

Youth is established to serve the multi-county 50 mile area of Lufkin and Nacogdoches, Texas including Angelina, Trinity, San Augustine, Nacogdoches and Polk County.
InterMedia is an experience that may shape an individual’s level of dependency, which can be marked in various ways according to
different cultural perspectives. Youth InterMedia was a term used in the mid-1960s by Fluxus artist Dick Higgins to describe various inter-disciplinary art activities that occurred between genres. The areas such as those between drawing and poetry, or between painting and theater could be described as “intermedia”. With repeated occurrences, these new genres between genres could develop their own names. (e.g. visual poetry,
performance art)
